“If you knew the generosity of God and who I am, you would be asking me for a drink, and I would give you fresh, living water.”~~Jesus

Jesus knows first hand the generosity of God. When we ask for a drink of water, he reminds us (challenges us) to focus on what is important. Water will quench our thirst for a brief period of time. Jesus gives us the Holy Spirit (living water) who empowers us for all of eternity. We have that now.

May I drink from the living water of Jesus and realize the power of His Holy Spirit. May I realize that now.

“If you knew the generosity of God and who I am, you would be asking me for a drink, and I would give you fresh, living water.”~~Jesus (John 4:10)

His generosity

As the Son of God, Jesus the Messiah had all the riches of our Father. Yet He chose to give it all away. He did it for us. He did it so we could share the riches of our Father as well.

It is His nature to be generous. He loves to give to us. Like any father, He delights in making things happen for us even if it means a sacrifice on His part. Now that is love.

You are familiar with the generosity of our Master, Jesus Christ. Rich as he was, he gave it all away for us—in one stroke he became poor and we became rich. 2 Corinthians 8:8-9

Am I being a miser? Am I stingy?

We have heard a lot. God is good and tells us His secrets. Are we keeping them to ourselves or giving them away? His generosity is well known. Are we sharing it?

The more of His goodness we give away the more we get. It just keeps coming back to us over and over again.

May we not shove the light under a bed. May we set it out so everyone can see.

No one lights a lamp and then covers it with a washtub or shoves it under the bed. No, you set it up on a lamp stand so those who enter the room can see their way. We’re not keeping secrets; we’re telling them. We’re not hiding things; we’re bringing everything out into the open. So be careful that you don’t become misers of what you hear. Generosity begets generosity. Stinginess impoverishes. Luke 8:16-18

“Keep open house; be generous with your lives.” ~~Jesus

December 23, 2012 4 comments

Jesus wants us to radically open. He links this to being generous. Everything we are belongs to our Father. Jesus knows that by opening up to others, we’ll prompt people to open up with God. They will see this generous Father we have in heaven.Generosity They will see, through our openness about God how wonderfully generous he is. What a loving Father He is.

This is core to the new agreement with God. Nothing is be hidden. Nothing is to be closed. Transparency is required. Jesus demands it.

“Keep open house; be generous with your lives.” ~~Jesus (Matthew 5:14-16 The Message)

God is talking

November 19, 2012 Leave a comment

God has been talking to me a long time. I can go way back. Dr. Pirtle spoke the word of God that lead me to Jesus. Jay Fesperman led me into a disciplined life in God. Bob Mumford challenged me to submit to the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Derek Prince helped me see how fully I am redeemed. Most recently, Bill Johnson has shown the way to how good God is. Jack Graham shows the way to the goodness of fellowship. Sally Fesperman on how intercession is the way to Gods absolute perfection. On and on it goes. His word right out of the mouths of those I know.

It is a long line of men and women who have addressed me in different ways. And it started way before me. Thousands of years going back to the beginning, the word has come to me through those who went before me. And there were those who proceeded Jesus. In the scheme of things, that wasn’t that long ago. Jesus word holds true today coming to me directly.

It was through Jesus (and the word He spoke) that God created everything that we know as the world and the universe. He created it and it will all be His in the end. It will all belong to Jesus for sure. Jesus absolutely perfectly mirrors God. Everything God is is stamped into who Jesus is now. Because God spoke it to begin with. He is now holding it all together today by the same word He spoke so long ago. He has such powerful words. Oh my goodness, His word blasts forward to make it all happen.

“He gives his best—the sun to warm and the rain to nourish—to everyone, regardless: the good and bad, the nice and nasty.” ~~Jesus

God’s generosity extends to everyone. He includes the evil, the bad and the nasty in His plans to redeem and restore. He is not like us, good to those who are good to us but vindictive to those who hurt us.

He gives his best to everyone. Think about that. In our world, we dole things out in a hierarchical way. Average things to most people and the best for a few. Not our Father. He gives his best to everyone. No distinctions.

“He gives his best—the sun to warm and the rain to nourish—to everyone, regardless: the good and bad, the nice and nasty.” ~~Jesus (Matthew 5 The Message)

Being “religious” carries some weight with God doesn’t it?

September 6, 2012 1 comment

Being “religious” carries some weight with God doesn’t it? Unfortunately, not a bit. Not even a little. Being Jewish or Baptist or Muslim doesn’t do it.

There is nothing we can do, even being religious, to get in right standing with God.  Out of sheer generosity God put us in right standing with himself. A pure gift. He got us out of the mess we’re in and restored us to where he always wanted us to be. And he did it by means of Jesus the Messiah.

“And where does that leave our proud religious claim of having a corner on God? Also canceled.” ~~Apostle Paul (Romans 3:29 The Message)

“I have never understood why it is ‘greed’ to want to keep the money you’ve earned, but not greed to want to want to take somebody else’s money.” ~~Thomas Sowell

This rings true during this season of politics. Generosity should be through the act of individuals. It always serves the needs of the deserving better that way I think.

God wants to know. Are you good enough to be better?

God has done some amazing things in my life. But, He says to me, “Are you good enough to be better?” There is more, He whispers. He wants to do more.

There are times I feel like saying “Enough already”. He appreciates me saying that. He smiles. Really, He does. He likes me. He thinks what He has done in me is pretty cool stuff. We have fun with each other some days. Him more with me though!! hahaha

So He hugs me. He puts His arm around my shoulder and says, “Here is the next good thing I am willing to do in you. Ready?” Oh my Father. OK, bring it on!!

May I excel in that “next thing” as well. There is more.

But just as you abound in everything, in faith and utterance and knowledge and in all earnestness and in the love we inspired in you, see that you abound in this gracious work also. 2 Corinthians 8:7

“A generous man will himself be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor.” ~~King Solomon

Generosity is interesting. It brings a blessing back to me. That blessing takes many forms I think. The greatest is the joy of doing what our Father desires. He says to give and obedience is it’s own form of blessing.

The focus of generosity should be on the poor. Solomon challenges us to have a mission with our generosity. Here, we have lots of opportunity for sure.

GOD is generous. He is caring and in a good mood. Always.

A generous man will himself be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor. ~~King Solomon Proverbs 22:9

“What happened was this: People knew God perfectly well, but when they didn’t treat him like God….” ~~Apostle Paul

July 7, 2012 5 comments

We all know GOD exists. Sure, there are some atheist but they are really kidding themselves. So lets not think about that. We know there is a GOD. Here is the big question. Do we treat Him like GOD? Think about it. GOD is GOD. GOD is great. GOD is good. We “know it”. Do we believe Him?

If we don’t treat him like GOD, GOD says, in effect, “If that’s what you want, that’s what you get.” This is a case of be careful what you ask for.

“What happened was this: People knew God perfectly well, but when they didn’t treat him like God….” ~~Apostle Paul (Romans 1:18 The Message)

“If someone drags you into court and sues for the shirt off your back, giftwrap your best coat and make a present of it.” ~~Jesus

Jesus challenges us to have a GOD World (Kingdom) approach to retaliation. Our normal approach to being sued is to defend ourselves or counter sue. Jesus challenges us to give our enemies what they want and then overwhelm them with love and generosity by giving them something precious they didn’t ask for. GOD’s way is love. GOD’s way is generosity. Our heavenly Father doesn’t want us to retaliate. Being generous gains attention for GOD where retaliation is expected.

Jesus sets a standard for us that requires us to tap into the power of the Holy Spirit. It is the power of love.

“If someone drags you into court and sues for the shirt off your back, giftwrap your best coat and make a present of it.” ~~Jesus (Matthew 5:40 The Message)

“By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.” ~~Jesus

Jesus intends for us to have great relationships with people in our world. He demands that we love one another. This requires being open. When we reflect His love and are open, we are prompting others to have a relationship with our Father. Our generosity and love always points to our Father’s.

May I learn to be open like my Master Jesus.

“By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.” ~~Jesus

“The world of the generous gets larger and larger; the world of the stingy gets smaller and smaller.” ~~King Solomon

Solomon nailed this one dead on. Generosity begets generosity. The more you give the more you like to give. It just gets better and better.

Being stingy gets you nowhere.

“The world of the generous gets larger and larger; the world of the stingy gets smaller and smaller.” ~~King Solomon (Proverbs 11:24)

Can we out-god God?

December 17, 2011 Leave a comment

No, we can’t. God is God. Peter laid in on the line with the early Christians who wanted to maintain the old agreement about the religious rules and regulations. He wasn’t having any of it. He knew something that is the main thing.

We can’t out-god God! We can try to reach God by being good but it won’t work. It is only out of His generosity that we move beyond missing the mark and operate in the realm where we fulfill His every desire. Keeping the rules won’t get is into His world. He has a new plan that has nothing to do with that. God is God. And God is great. Nothing is impossible with Him.

“So why are you now trying to out-god God, loading these new believers down with rules that crushed our ancestors and crushed us, too? Don’t we believe that we are saved because the Master Jesus amazingly and out of sheer generosity moved to save us just as he did those from beyond our nation? So what are we arguing about?” Acts 15:10-11

Things way over my head

October 28, 2011 Leave a comment

That God has done something in my life is a real surprise, Him handling every single detail. It is nothing but a gift, His riches which I have a hard time understanding, coming to me every day. I am writing about things that are way over my head.

My task is to bring out into open what He is doing. His generosity is amazing. It is hard to get my arms around it. The credit goes to Him. It is His work for sure.

To me, the very least of all saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unfathomable riches of Christ, Ephesians 3:8

A good contract (1950)

Billy Southworth had a good contract. In 1950 it had 3 years left on it. He would get $50,000 per season. 1949 had not been a good season. Yet, there was no doubt Billy would return as manager in 1950. And he did. The Braves finished fourth, 8 games back.

They did try to reformulate the team. Shortstop Al Dark and second baseman Eddie Stansky were sent packing. We got four players from the Giants for them. Only left fielder Sid Gordon made a difference. Where did the trade to the Giants get them? The Giants were contenders in 1950 and penant winners in 1951. Dark and Stansky help them get there. Thanks to the generosity of the Braves.

We are on Assigment

We have been given an assigment. God has things he wants us to do. Some of that got started with the prophets. That was all preliminary to what we need to focus on right now to achieve His goals for the world. We received the gift and we need, urgently so, to pass it on to those God has called to be a part of His mission.

And so, we must devote ourself as someone who is completely owned by our Master. He is our Master. We must do all that He asks of us. And we must be urgent about. There is not time to sit around eating bon bons. Souls are at stake.

May I trust Him every step of the way. May I get on with it urgently.

I, Paul, am a devoted slave of Jesus Christ on assignment, authorized as an apostle to proclaim God’s words and acts. I write this letter to all the believers in Rome, God’s friends. The sacred writings contain preliminary reports by the prophets on God’s Son. His descent from David roots him in history; his unique identity as Son of God was shown by the Spirit when Jesus was raised from the dead, setting him apart as the Messiah, our Master. Through him we received both the generous gift of his life and the urgent task of passing it on to others who receive it by entering into obedient trust in Jesus. You are who you are through this gift and call of Jesus Christ! And I greet you now with all the generosity of God our Father and our Master Jesus, the Messiah. Romans 1:1-7

Life that is truely life

January 19, 2011 Leave a comment

I need to go after God. I want to be rich in helping others. I want to be extravagantly generous, just like Him. I want to focus on building up treasures in Heaven that will last forever. I want to gain life that is truely life. Life that is focused on building wealth here is not life at all. His generosity will take care of what I need.

Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed. 1 Timothy 6:17-19

He is right there for us

November 17, 2010 Leave a comment

Our heavenly Father has decided to show us mercy and love, not judgement. Now let us stop right there for a minute. No judgement? Really? That is right. All praise belongs to Him who is the God and Father of our Master Jesus. His wisdom and counsel heals and restores us. When we have difficult days, He is right there next to us, encouraging us as only He can do.

As a result of us getting through these days, He brings someone into our life who needs to hear how God has helped us. We can be there for them just the way God is there for us. Funny how that prepares us to help someone else and give them good gifts from God. His generosity becomes our generosity.

Of course we have some tough days because of following after Jesus. His way is not always easy. But through it all, we have many more amazing days of His healing and comfort. We get more than a full measure of all His benefits and gifts. If the recipe calls for a little, He gives more. He is not stingy at all. Good stuff for sure.

Today

How often do I dwell in the past? Remember the time …. Ah, the good old days!!

God is doing a new thing. He has a new plan. It is springing up like a fountain just turned on. Where nothing existed in us, He is creating a new being. Where no love existed, His generosity creates life. Where no understanding was available, His wisdom pours forth.

May I forget the past. May I dwell in His way today.

Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. The wild animals honor me, the jackals and the owls, because I provide water in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland, to give drink to my people, my chosen, the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise. Isaiah 43:18-21 TNIV Bible

Nelson Mandela

Mandela’s Way: Fifteen Lessons on Life, Love, and Courage, by Richard Stengel (Stengel, now editor of Time magazine, was a confidant of Mandela’s.)

From “Look the Part”:

“[Mandela has beautiful posture. You will never see him hunched over with his head anything but upright and looking ahead. On Robben Island, he was always aware of how he walked and carried himself. He knew he needed to be seen as standing up to the authorities, literally and figuratively … He knew that people took their cues from him, and if he were confident and unbowed, they would be too.” Read more…
