Will I end better than I started?

There are a lot of stories in the Old Testament about amazing men of God. One common theme in many of them is how at the end, they abandon God’s plan. Not Abraham. Not the mighty man of faith. Even in his advancing years, he followed God and God blessed him.

May it be so with me.

Abraham was now an old man. God had blessed Abraham in every way. Genesis 24:1

Who did God put in charge of salvation?

Who did God put in charge of salvation? Man? No. There is no way we have what it takes for that. Angels? No. Not even they could make it happen. Who then? What was His solution?

Jesus came to earth in all humility. He left His place of honor with our Father and came to us, like us. He was a little lower than the angels for a while. But then through His death and resurrection, He completed salvation for us. How amazing is that? He experienced death for us. He experienced death in our place. We are now raised to a whole new life and mission with Him.

May we appreciate all that He has done for us!

My Bible from 1970 when I was 16. Look who gave it to me!!

I must admit that most of my reading these days isn’t with physical books. I am an avid on-line / Kindle kind of person. I love the convenience of that way. But I do still have physical books and my most treasured are my Bibles. Here is the oldest one I have. I was 16 at the time. I didn’t recall I had bought it myself so I looked at the front to see if there was an inscription. Low and behold, look at who gave it to me.

How awesome is that?

How can a young person live a clean life?

August 4, 2012 3 comments

We are on a great journey. We need a map. We need direction on how to reach our destination.

How many times do we set out for the day without checking on how to get to where God wants us to go? God’s word gives us the clear directions. He has laid it all out for us. We have to be careful. We want get there just by winging it. The destination is clear. The directions are clear. We have been given the map. It is God’s word.

“How can a young person live a clean life? By carefully reading the map of your Word.” ~~King David (Psalm 119:9 The Message)¬†

“If you won’t take seriously what Moses wrote, how can I expect you to take seriously what I speak?” ~~Jesus

The religious scholars and the average Jewish person of Jesus time on earth thought they took “the Law”, what Moses wrote, very seriously. Jesus knew that Moses wrote about Him. He also knew they didn’t take that seriously and so discounted much of what Jesus had to say.

We read the Bible but do we always take it seriously? Jesus demands that we take the Bible and what He says seriously. It is a matter of life and death.

“You have your heads in your Bibles constantly. But you miss the forest for the trees.” ~~Jesus

Jesus demands we get the point. We need to see Jesus. We need to have a passionate relationship with His Father. Reading the Bible and missing Him is pointless. Being religious and not in a loving relationship with God is vast waste of time and energy.

I want to get it. I want to be in love with Him. May I see the forest. The Bible doesn’t give me eternal life. Jesus does.

“You have your heads in your Bibles constantly because you think you’ll find eternal life there. But you miss the forest for the trees. These Scriptures are all about me!” ~~Jesus¬†

“It’s a great tragedy when the Bible is interpreted by those who are not in love.” ~~Bill Johnson
