Why did Jesus get indignant?

I am not sure I would have wanted to have been a part of this. But then again, I know I don’t always do what I should either. I miss the mark. I miss the point.

Of course, this started when THEY decided to be mean to children. But, they did it in front of Jesus. There is this side of Jesus we don’t always want to talk about. He could get angry. He could get indignant. He had real feelings for how His Father wanted things to be done. God’s way of doing things (His Kingdom) is not ours. We must learn it. He knows how to make the point with us, even if it is forcefully some days. It is out of love.

He loves me and because He does, He can take me to the woodshed.

This is what He said to His disciples. They were VERY close to Him. Hmmm!!!

People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them. Mark 10:13-16

Be childish or grow up? Which is it?

We have heard from Jesus to be like a child. We also hear Him challenge us to grow up. Which is it? Be a child or grow up?

Well, I think it is yes / and Yes, we need to have the faith of a child and we need to grow up. It isn’t either / or. We need to live generously and not focus on ourselves (like children can). Just the way God lives toward us.

“In a word, what I’m saying is, Grow up. You’re kingdom subjects. Now live like it. Live out your God-created identity. Live generously and graciously toward others, the way God lives toward you.” Matthew 5:48

What is the most important thing?

July 4, 2012 2 comments

What kind of legacy do I want to leave my children? What is the most important thing I can do? What will make it easy for them in life?

Great questions. Here is God’s answer. Be God-loyal. Pretty straightforward. The things I think may be important pale in light of being loyal to Him. That is what will help my children.

God-loyal people, living honest lives, make it much easier for their children. Proverbs 20:7
