What will others decide?

February 17, 2013 2 comments

Others get to decide how we will come to them. It is their actions that determine that. Will we come as disciplinarian? Friend?

It is their choice.  May they make the right ones. May we respond in love.

So how should I prepare to come to you? As a severe disciplinarian who makes you toe the mark? Or as a good friend and counselor who wants to share heart-to-heart with you? You decide. 1 Corinthians 4:21

Power and love

I don’t have to be timid or shy. Fear can’t grip my heart. He has given me His HOLY Spirit. The Spirit gives me power that I have never known. I can be bold.

I have His love drenching my heart and soul. With His sensible care I persevere. His love is a gift to me.

The discipline He brings into my life makes a difference. I can focus on His daily direction. I can move according to His long range goals for me. That direction and focus drives out all fear.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7

“And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment.” ~~ Apostle Paul

God has chosen us for a new life. It is a life of love. It’s characteristics are:

  • Compassion
  • Kindness
  • Humility
  • Quiet strength
  • Discipline
  • Even tempered
  • Forgiving

And so, we should wear love everyday. It is a garment we should always put on.

So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it. Colossians 3:12-14

Use me Lord

Use me Lord. Use me until I am all used up. May I be disciplined in listening to You.

May I be one you count on. May I be one of the few.

Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.” Matthew 9:37

Don't waver. Stay on track, steady in God. ~Apostle Paul

Here is some great advise from the Apostle Paul. The best he can wish for us is that we stay on track, that we are steady in God. persistence and discipline are amazing when it comes to knowing God.

How often do we start something to not finish it. One of the greatest tragedies in the old plan were men of God who started well but finished poorly. So … the best for us is that we stay on track and don’t waiver. Steady is the way of God’s new plan for us.

My dear, dear friends! I love you so much. I do want the very best for you. You make me feel such joy, fill me with such pride. Don’t waver. Stay on track, steady in God. Philippians 4:1

I want to be a son

February 6, 2011 Leave a comment
I want to be a son. To be something else would be unthinkable. My earthly dad did discipline me. He had my long term best interest at heart. There were things he wanted me to learn and I didn’t always want to learn it. Not at the time anyway. I appreciate it now but it was sometimes painful then.

God is training me for my good. There are things He wants me to learn. Sometimes He needs to get my attention. I can be stubborn. No doubt about that. I do want righteousness and peace. It can be mine. I must be a son though.

Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father? If you are not disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children and not true sons. Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of our spirits and live! Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. Hebrews 12:7-11 NIV
