Smile even if you are hurting. Be happy even if you are unhappy. It’s called strength!

Smile even if you are hurting. Be happy even if you are unhappy. It’s called strength!

Jesus didn’t call us to be Christians. He called us to be Disciples. He didn’t promise us a rose garden. He did guarantee that if we follow Him, we would have a joy no one can understand. Submission leads to happiness.

You can smile if you are hurting. You have Jesus, you have His strength and you can be happy in Him.

If you understand what I’m telling you, act like it. ~~Jesus

Where does discontent and depression come from? Is it possible we understand that God wants us to do something and yet have not acted on what He has said?Happy - 01

Happiness comes from doing what we know God wants us to do. We will be more than happy when we act on His desire and purpose for our lives. Peace comes from knowing in our heart what God wants us to do, understanding that in our mind, saying it with our lips and then doing it.

If you understand what I’m telling you, act like it—and live a blessed (more than happy) life. ~Jesus (John 13:17 The Message)

Don’t be greedy for happiness. You’ll be more than happy with humility. God is in a good mood.

Greed comes in all forms. It takes all shapes. It is not all about money.

We seem to be developing a culture built around greed for happiness. It almost has become a right. In God’s world, we can be more than happy but it  comes in different ways than we think. Jesus challenges us to be last, to be meek, to leave everything for Him. He is serious about these things.

Don’t be greedy for happiness. You’ll be more than happy with humility. God is in a good mood.

Fun is important. Happiness is worth it’s weight in gold.

Can I be more than happy?

November 2, 2012 Leave a comment

How can I be happy? How can I be more than happy? It is pretty simple and straight forward. Follow His directions. Do my best to find Him in everything. I can go my own way and I can go His way.

Happiness, true happiness, comes from keeping one foot in front of another on His road. He speaks to my heart in a frank and direct way. I hear him. Will I listen and do?

You’re more than happy when you follow his directions, doing your best to find him. That’s right—you don’t go off on your own; you walk straight along the road he set. You, God, prescribed the right way to live; now you expect us to live it.

Oh, that my steps might be steady, keeping to the course you set; Then I’d never have any regrets in comparing my life with your counsel. I thank you for speaking straight from your heart; I learn the pattern of your righteous ways. I’m going to do what you tell me to do; don’t ever walk off and leave me. Psalm 119:1-8

“Count yourselves blessed every time people put you down or speak lies about you to discredit me.” ~~Jesus

Are people putting me down because of my following Jesus? Do I make others uncomfortable with my passion of our Lord? Uncomfortable questions in a culture that values “not rocking the boat”.

Oh well. I am more than happy (blessed) when it happens.

“Count yourselves blessed every time people put you down or throw you out or speak lies about you to discredit me. What it means is that the truth is too close for comfort and they are uncomfortable.” ~~Jesus

Against the grain

In listening to Jesus, much of what He is saying (see Matthew 5) goes against the grain of what I have thought brings happiness. Here are some of the things that don’t make sense in this world but lead to happiness in His Kingdom:

  • With less of me there is more of God and his rule.
  • I have to lose what is most dear to me.
  • I must be content in who I am in His kingdom.
  • I must be a glutton for Him spiritually. Hunger for Him more than food.
  • I must care for others, not myself.
  • I must get my inside world, mind and heart, right first.
  • I must show others how to cooperate not compete.
  • I must be comfortable that my commitment to God will provoke persecution.
  • I must please Him first.

So, there it is. It is not conventional wisdom at. It is God’s way.
