“The Father handed all authority to judge over to the Son so that the Son will be honored equally with the Father.” ~~Jesus

Jesus demands that we understand who He is in relation to God. Jesus says this. He really wants us to get who He is. Jesus said, “Don’t judge.” Yet, Jesus tells us He will judge. He has that authority and He has been given it by God.

His Father is pleased to do this for His son Jesus.

So … we should pay attention to what Jesus says. He will be the judge.

“The Father handed all authority to judge over to the Son so that the Son will be honored equally with the Father.” ~~Jesus (John 5:20-23 The Message)

Is it a normal day?

October 30, 2012 Leave a comment

They must have talked about it their whole lives long. Surely they did. How could they not? It probably started out just like a normal day. They were probably doing normal things. But then Jesus interrupted and said “Come on with me.” So Peter, James and John followed the Messiah up the mountain.

And then out of the blue, His face suddenly shone like the sun! His clothes became dazzling white like a flash of lightening! Then Elijah and Moses! And just when they probably thought there was nothing more they could possibly see and believe– a cloud and the Voice of God Himself. “This is my Son, whom I love.” They were so frightened they threw themselves physically to the ground. They were awestruck with the supernatural Power of God.

Jesus knew all along it was going to happen. He took them with him on purpose to see it. And he wanted them to talk about it their whole life long.

He wants us to see it. He wants us to talk about it our whole life long.

We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Master Jesus the Messiah, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.
2 Peter 1:16-18

“Anyone who dishonors the Son, dishonors the Father, for it was the Father’s decision to put the Son in the place of honor.” ~~Jesus

God the Father and Jesus the Son are the same. Dishonor one and you dishonor the other. Jesus said this to religious people and challenged them to believe Him. We love to speak of God. Do we love to say the name of Jesus the same way?

Does Jesus have the same place of honor in our lives as God does?

“Anyone who dishonors the Son, dishonors the Father, for it was the Father’s decision to put the Son in the place of honor.” ~~Jesus (John 5:23 The Message)

Jesus could nail it. And nail it he did.

September 7, 2012 Leave a comment

Jesus could nail it. And nail it he did. All of life should be about doing what we hear God saying. There is a flip attitude that others in this culture appreciate but dishonors God. So … who do I want to please? Who is most important?

I should drive the trite out of my life.

Don’t be flip with the sacred. Banter and silliness give no honor to God. Don’t reduce holy mysteries to slogans. In trying to be relevant, you’re only being cute and inviting sacrilege. Matthew 7:6

Will I honor God?

August 7, 2012 3 comments

Jesus is all about doing what He sees His Father doing. He listens to Him. He knows what is in God’s heart. He was obedient to the point of giving everything up, coming to live with us, perfectly following everything His Father wanted Him to do.

He honored God.

What was the result of this perfect obedience? God answered Him. Jesus became the source of eternal salvation to all who believingly obey him.

I think the essence of honor is obedience.

“Because Jesus honored God, God answered him.” (Hebrews 5:8)

What is God’s new plan for us?

Our Father had a new plan for us. It wasn’t based on the old plan where sacrificing could cover up for us missing the goal that God has for us. Nope. No more “things to do” to be in right standing. Now that is good news.

Jesus took care of all of that. Nothing left we can do to get right with God. Now Jesus has taken His seat of honor next to our Father. It is the seat of absolute perfection right alongside God. Not even angels have that kind of honor. Angels have a special place with God. Jesus is way above that. Jesus is the faithful Son. God celebrates what Jesus did for us.

“Leaders who want a culture of honor so they’ll be treated better miss the point. Honor is the atmosphere in which the people of God become their best.” ~Bill Johnson

Who is your hero?

Who is your hero? We ask that a lot. Who do we look up to?

Jesus should be the centerpiece of everything I do and think. God is the builder. Heros are the employees who do the work at the edges. Jesus is the architect of everything. He is in charge of all that God created and built. He was completely faithful and got done all that God gave Him to do.

So, my dear Christian friends, companions in following this call to the heights, take a good hard look at Jesus. He’s the centerpiece of everything we believe, faithful in everything God gave him to do. Moses was also faithful, but Jesus gets far more honor. A builder is more valuable than a building any day. Every house has a builder, but the Builder behind them all is God. Moses did a good job in God’s house, but it was all servant work, getting things ready for what was to come. Christ as Son is in charge of the house. Hebrews 3:1-6

Just a little lower

November 13, 2010 Leave a comment

I am stunned at how our Father sees me compared to how I see myself. He sees me as a friend who He loves to crown with His glory. He honors me. He has made me a ruler in His Kingdom. Not how I see myself some days. Everything He has for me is mine.

May I get in my heart God’s reality. May I see myself as He sees me!!

You have made them a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned them with glory and honor. You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet: all flocks and herds, and the animals of the wild, the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas. Psalm 8:5-8
