Am I humble enough?

January 19, 2012 Leave a comment

Am I humble enough? Not yet and that is important to understand.

Who gets the credit? That is a central question. In God’s world that He rules (the Kingdom), God gets the credit. The victory belongs to the Lord. Humility is central to relationships. Central to my relationship with Him. Central to my relationship with others. Love does not boast. That is how I bless others and receive a blessing.

May I always give the Lord the credit. He is God. He is good. He is great.

Summing up: Be agreeable, be sympathetic, be loving, be compassionate, be humble. That goes for all of you, no exceptions. No retaliation. No sharp-tongued sarcasm. Instead, bless—that’s your job, to bless. You’ll be a blessing and also get a blessing. 1 Peter 3:8-12

“And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment.” ~~ Apostle Paul

God has chosen us for a new life. It is a life of love. It’s characteristics are:

  • Compassion
  • Kindness
  • Humility
  • Quiet strength
  • Discipline
  • Even tempered
  • Forgiving

And so, we should wear love everyday. It is a garment we should always put on.

So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it. Colossians 3:12-14

And be thankful

What is important in being thankful? After a long list on how we ought to live, Paul adds “and be thankful”. Being thankful comes from being compassionate, kind, humble, gentle and patient. Being thankful comes from being clothed in love.

May I be compassionate and kind. May I love like Jesus. May I be thankful.

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:12-17 TNIV Bible

Somebody has to set up the chairs

April 2, 2011 1 comment

Somebody has to set up the chairs. In God’s world, it is not about who gets credit and gets to do the glamorous jobs.

“If we’re honest, we’ll admit that many of us prefer to be the one “on stage,” the one in the limelight, receiving the accolades and praise and attention, rather than the silent one in the background, setting up chairs so others can
come and rest as they listen to God’s message. But if we truly believe we are all one Body, here to serve God and others, then setting up chairs at the women’s Bible study is just as vital as giving the keynote address at a national
gathering. And caring for those who cannot care for themselves is a great privilege, bestowed upon us by the Creator of the Universe, the Author of Life.”

My job is to be a blessing. Being agreeable is a key to blessing others. The ability to agree with our Father and others can move mountains. That positive force of the Holy Spirit move us all in agreement.

Here is a list of characteristics I should cultivate:

  • Agreeable
  • Sympathetic
  • Loving
  • Compassionate
  • Humility

May I know what our Father wants and agree with Him. May I bless others with my Father enabled agreeableness!!!
