“Give me a bent for your words of wisdom, and not for piling up loot.” ~~King David
King David knew what was important. His passion was for God’s word. Nothing delighted him more that to hear what God had to say. He devoted himself to listening. He didn’t care about wealth, just obeying God.
May I long for what God is saying today.
“Give me a bent for your words of wisdom, and not for piling up loot.” ~~King David (Psalm 119:34The Message)
Will I stay the course?
There is a lot to be said for staying the course with God. He certainly never abandons us. May I not abandon Him. Let me stay the course. That is the real deal for sure.
And sure, that requires that I learn some leasons. Persistence requires some learning.
God, teach me lessons for living so I can stay the course. Psalm 119:33
Can I be more than happy?
How can I be happy? How can I be more than happy? It is pretty simple and straight forward. Follow His directions. Do my best to find Him in everything. I can go my own way and I can go His way.
Happiness, true happiness, comes from keeping one foot in front of another on His road. He speaks to my heart in a frank and direct way. I hear him. Will I listen and do?
You’re more than happy when you follow his directions, doing your best to find him. That’s right—you don’t go off on your own; you walk straight along the road he set. You, God, prescribed the right way to live; now you expect us to live it.
Oh, that my steps might be steady, keeping to the course you set; Then I’d never have any regrets in comparing my life with your counsel. I thank you for speaking straight from your heart; I learn the pattern of your righteous ways. I’m going to do what you tell me to do; don’t ever walk off and leave me. Psalm 119:1-8

Will I finish? Will I persevere?
It is one thing to start but it is completely another to finish and stay on course. King David knew what brings true happiness in life. Staying on course is one of them. Finishing the race is what is important. Many start. Not all finish.
It is not how I start that is as important as how I end. The only way to get there is to stay on course. Stick with God. That is the deal. Today and every day.
You’re more than happy when you stay on course, walking steadily on the road revealed by God. ~~King David (Psalm 119:1)

Can I go morally bankrupt?
Can I go morally bankrupt? It is possible.Without God’s word and promises stored up in a sufficient manner, we can make too many withdrawals.
King David knew the secret to preventing moral bankruptcy.
David treated his heart like a bank. He stored up God’s promises in the vault of his heart. It protected his heart from going bankrupt from his sin.
“I’ve banked your promises in the vault of my heart so I won’t sin myself bankrupt.” ~~King David (Psalm 119:11 The Message)

Am I focused on staying on the right road?
It is so easy to become distracted. King David knew that so very well. I am thinking it is even easier today. So much TV, IM’s, email, texts, music, ad’s. The list of ways to become distracted goes on and on.
I need to pursue God. I need to stay on the road and not miss the signs that keep me on track. I need to be single minded about King Jesus. It is not just be focused. It is be focused on the right thing. It is be on the right road.
I need to focus on Jesus!!
“I’m single-minded in pursuit of you; don’t let me miss the road signs you’ve posted.” ~~King David (Psalm 119:10 The Message)

How can a young person live a clean life?
We are on a great journey. We need a map. We need direction on how to reach our destination.
How many times do we set out for the day without checking on how to get to where God wants us to go? God’s word gives us the clear directions. He has laid it all out for us. We have to be careful. We want get there just by winging it. The destination is clear. The directions are clear. We have been given the map. It is God’s word.
“How can a young person live a clean life? By carefully reading the map of your Word.” ~~King David (Psalm 119:9 The Message)

Do I have true freedom?
Not only has He healed my heart, He has set it free. That freedom leads me to run in the path of His desire for my life. His freedom leads to my commitment to do what He wants for me.
Freedom leading to willing obedienceis His way. And I run in it!! Willingly. Gladly.
I run in the path of your commands,
for you have set my heart free. Psalm 119:32
