“Other seed fell in rich earth and produced a bumper crop.” ~~Jesus

Jesus loved to tell stories. This one was about the farmer who planted seeds for his crop. But not all seeds produced the same crop. Some did however.

The seed that was planted in the good earth—these are the good-hearts who seize the Word and hold on no matter what, sticking with it until there’s a harvest. Now they produced a bumper crop.

May we seize the word. May we hold onto it now matter what. May we stick with it until there is a harvest.

“Other seed fell in rich earth and produced a bumper crop.” ~~Jesus (Luke 8:8 The Message)

Do I know what Jesus is doing?

October 4, 2012 3 comments

Some days when Jesus talks to me I am like His parents. I have no idea what He is talking about. It is sad. But it is true. Jesus expects us to know where he is and what he is doing.

Jesus constantly listened to what His heavenly Father was saying. His marching orders came from Him. He was completely in tune with God.

May I know what He is talking about. May I do it.

Jesus said [to His parents], “Why were you looking for me? Didn’t you know that I had to be here, dealing with the things of my Father?” But they had no idea what he was talking about. Luke 2:49-50

“Other seed fell in the gravel; it sprouted, but withered because it didn’t have good roots.” ~~Jesus

We know there can be a problem. There is the early enthusiasm of hear Jesus and knowing him. But the enthusiasm doesn’t go very deep. It is all emotion and superficial. Nothing really changes much other than a commitment to go to a church building that is very entertaining. It is all a fad.

And when the first bit of trouble comes, puff, the commitment is gone.

Jesus challenges us not to be this way. We need to seize the Word we hear from Him. We need to hold on to what we hear no matter what. We need to persist and stick with it. That is the challenge from Jesus. We need to have good roots.

“Other seed fell in the gravel; it sprouted, but withered because it didn’t have good roots.” ~~Jesus (Luke 8:6 The Message)

Did you hear Him?

Want more faith? How would that happen?

Did you hear Him?

Seriously. Did you?

So faith comes from hearing,

and hearing by the word of the Messiah.

–Romans 10:17

The long haul

The past is an interesting diversion. And a diversion it is. It can lead to an unnatural reliance on a reality that no longer exists in God. It can throw us off course. It can divert us from our God who is a TODAY God. He is, not was. If all we think about is what he did in the past, we are not in the relationship with Him for the long haul.

What is He saying today? What is He doing today?

So watch your step, friends. Make sure there’s no unnatural unbelief lying around that will trip you up and throw you off course, diverting you from the living God. For as long as it’s still God’s Today, keep each other on your toes so missing God’s goal doesn’t slow down your reflexes. If we can only keep our grip on the sure thing we started out with, we’re in this with Christ for the long haul. These words keep ringing in our ears: Today, please listen; don’t turn a deaf ear as in the bitter uprising. Hebrews 3:12-14

May I hear God today and act on His desires. May I be with Him for the long haul.
