Jesus challenges people. If He is speaking through you, some are definitely going to get mad.

Jesus is reaching people. If He is speaking through you, some are going to be very glad.

Are you making people mad? Are you making people glad? A sure sign God is speaking through you.

“Other seed fell in the weeds; the weeds grew with it and strangled it.” ~~Jesus

November 9, 2012 4 comments

So we have heard God. But something happens. It isn’t immediate but in fact subtly slow over time.

Life happens is what. We go about our lives. We worry about how we will take care of things. Tomorrow is more important than what God is saying today. We worry. We get consumed with making money. Our focus is on having fun.

What we heard God say gets lost in all this other noise. The weeds of life choke and strangle the Word of Jesus.

May we seize God’s Word. May we hold on no matter what. May we stick with it until there’s a harvest.

“Other seed fell in the weeds; the weeds grew with it and strangled it.” ~~Jesus (Luke 8:6)

How powerful is that?

Here is a really amazing thing about our heavenly Father. He spoke to us directly through His Son Jesus. Just reading what He said blows me away some days. He still does it today. Through His HOLY Spirit, the words come alive.

And, it was through Jesus that God created the whole world in the beginning. And because of what Jesus did, the world and all that is in it, will belong to Jesus at the end. He truly is the beginning and the end.

So … this is stunning as well. Jesus perfectly mirrors our heavenly Father. He is stamped with God’s complete nature. He is so powerful that He holds everything in the entire universe together by what He says. How powerful is that?

I hunger

November 4, 2011 Leave a comment

I hunger for His touch. It is all about the relationship. He wants me to be a glutton for Him. He wants me to hunger for Him like I do a great meal. Hunger like I do for King Crab or a great steak or that amazing hamburger.

I thirst for His word. I hunger for His word. I can’t do without it. I can’t wait for the next meal.

May I hunger and thirst for you like no other. May I receive your nurishment.

Rock solid guarantee

November 1, 2011 Leave a comment

There is the saying “As good as his word”. All God has to do to guarantee His promise to us to give us His word. When He says it, we can count on it. No ifs, ands or buts. It is done.

I can take it to the bank. He won’t break His promise to me. He is faithful so I can be faithful.

When God wanted to guarantee his promises, he gave his word, a rock-solid guarantee—God can’t break his word. And because his word cannot change, the promise is likewise unchangeable. Hebrews 6:18

Just the facts?

Luke got it right. Knowing and having supernatural courage (faith) about Jesus is what it is all about. He made it his mission to present “the facts”. He investigated it down to the last detail. Imagine having been there and seen and known so many who experience Jesus. Imagine getting it right and writing about it. It is ours and we can know too. What a story. Thanks for men like Luke.

So many others have tried their hand at putting together a story of the wonderful harvest of Scripture and history that took place among us, using reports handed down by the original eyewitnesses who served this Word with their very lives. Since I have investigated all the reports in close detail, starting from the story’s beginning, I decided to write it all out for you, most honorable Theophilus, so you can know beyond the shadow of a doubt the reliability of what you were taught. Luke 1:1-4

May I know beyond a shadow of a doubt about the reliability of what I have been taught.

I can hear

He is whispering. He is talking. He has some amazing things to say. In what I read. In what I hear in my heart. I have ears. I can hear.

There are also things He is not saying. Am I asking questions about things He has nothing to say? Am I focused on what He is saying or not saying?

Then Jesus said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” –Mark 4:9

May I listen to His word. May I hear what He is saying to me today.

The Big Reality

God is not decrepit. That may not be obvious but it is the BIG reality. He has not forgotten how to help. He is always powerful. Nothing is impossible with Him at all.

There it is and that is all there is to that.

So why didn’t anyone come when I knocked? Why didn’t anyone answer when I called? Do you think I’ve forgotten how to help? Am I so decrepit that I can’t deliver? I’m as powerful as ever, and can reverse what I once did: I can dry up the sea with a word, turn river water into desert sand, And leave the fish stinking in the sun, stranded on dry land . . . Turn all the lights out in the sky and pull down the curtain. Isaiah 50

No one is impervious to God's word

How many times have I said something, meaning it, and then did not follow through? Too many times for sure.

God is not that way. He means what He says. He follows through. He sees the real issue. He gets right to the heart of the matter. Our job is to listen and obey. There is no escape so we might as well believe and move ahead.

God means what he says. What he says goes. His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon’s scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey. Nothing and no one is impervious to God’s Word. We can’t get away from it—no matter what. Hebrews 4:12-13

May I experience the power of God’s word. May I trust Him and obey Him.

He is Life

November 11, 2010 Leave a comment

The Apostle John was the disciple Jesus loved. He was one of the 72, one of the 12, one of the 3 and the one whom Jesus loved. He knew Jesus better than anyone else. He saw it all “up close and personal”.

What does he tells us about all of this? Jesus is the Word of Life. He is Life itself.

And, we share it with John. That is the mystery of God’s goal for us. John has no advantage here.

From the very first day, we were there, taking it all in—we heard it with our own ears, saw it with our own eyes, verified it with our own hands. The Word of Life appeared right before our eyes; we saw it happen! And now we’re telling you in most sober prose that what we witnessed was, incredibly, this: The infinite Life of God himself took shape before us. 1 John 1:1-2
