The Delaware Peach

The final year of the glory years for the Braves (then known as the Boston Beaneaters) was due in part to Vic Willis. A great right handed pitcher. He arrived on the scene in 1898. He played with the Braves until 1905. He was born in Cecil County, Maryland on April 12, 1876. At 6’2″, he was tall for a player then. The Beaneaters had won eight of the first 23 championships.

Many of us remember the Georgia Peach, Ty Cobb. Vic was know as the Delaware Peach long before Ty. Willis pitched the second no-hitter in the Braves history. I came on August 7, 1899. He kept Washington hitless and won a 7-1 victory.
